Our Work
A look at the rooms, equipment and routines behind our live television projects, shown through the stages of the work rather than finished results.
Details from studios, galleries and sets
These scenes show the materials, equipment and settings we work with every day. Each one stands for a stage of the job, from the first measurement of a room to the last check before going live.

Vision mixer panel during commissioning
Buttons, faders and macros are programmed and tested against the show layouts the client described. We check each source and output by hand so the operator finds nothing unexpected on air.

Pedestal camera set for an interview
Camera height, lens and distance are fixed against where host and guest will sit. A little time on framing in rehearsal saves many corrections during a live programme.

Acoustic panels on a studio wall
Absorbers go where measurement shows reflections, usually at first-reflection points and in corners. Placing them carefully treats the room without covering every surface.

LED fixtures on the lighting grid
Fixtures are hung, aimed and connected to dimmer control from the grid. Colour temperature is matched across the set so faces look consistent from one camera to the next.

Run sheet review in the gallery
The director, producer and technical crew read through the running order together. Cues, camera moves and fallback steps are agreed before rehearsal begins.

Crew training at the broadcast desk
Operators practise on their own equipment with a trainer beside them. We cover routine tasks first, then the faults that are most likely during a live show.
sparkage
Working in live television since 2014
sparkage was founded in Exeter in 2014 and has worked on the technical side of live television ever since. Our projects range from interview rooms to news studios. We would rather describe the work plainly than quote totals. Every studio is different, and what we can tell you is how we approach yours.
